Rockstar co-founders Jamie King and Gary Foreman have formed independent developer 4mm Games.
The New York-based company plans to debut properties online or through mobile platforms such as iPhone before introducing them to consoles, reports Variety.
It currently has two undisclosed titles in development and says it may choose to distribute them itself.
“It is an utterly unprecedented time in the history of videogames, as the web and new business models disrupt the existing value chain,” said the firm’s CEO, Nicholas Perrett.
Former NBC and Warner Music executive Paul Coyne has also taken on the role of executive VP at 4mm Games.
He said that the company’s online titles will likely be casual in nature and targeted at “super-underserved” markets like female gamers.
